When I was at college in the first year in Colchester in the early '90s, a girl in the second year went on 'The Crystal Maze'. I watched her get 'locked in' to the room on the second of her challenges - she'd won a crystal on her first. So she didn't get to go in the dome at the end. I remember chatting to her about it whilst we were waiting to use the photocopier at college the day after it was broadcast. I told her she had three minutes to use the copier, and if she made a mistake it was an automatic lock-in. She playfully hit me on the head with some paper.

The computer game version for the Achemedies that my friend had some very tricky tasks, even the anti copy puzzle was hard to get right.

I've been enjoying this programme again on Challenge lately. Richard O Brien was brilliantly ott. Mind you, anyone who can write "The Rocky Horror Show" is fantastic in my book. Eddie Tenpole could never fill his (swashbuckling pirate) boots. At least he did make that excellent single "Swords of a Thousand Men."

i've always thought he was overtly camp in everything he has done. It's highly entertaining, the whole playing the harmonica and hamming it up with 'mumsies' in the medieval zone always had me in hysterics.

I've always thought he was overtly camp in everything he has done. It's highly entertaining, the whole playing the harmonica and hamming it up with 'Mumsies' in the Medieval Zone always had me in hysterics.

I never found him particularly "gayish". Flamboyant, yes

the things he came out with were so funny.

any idea why he left the show.

was he to gayish.
he had a great rapport with the contestants as well.

Aye, Edward Tudor-Pole wasn't camp enough to carry the show. Richard O'Brian brought an explosion of gay that could knock the yellow off your teeth if you stood close enough. It was totally believable that he was living there too, something which Ed didn't manage. Richards banter was leagues ahead of Ed's too, the man just had more pizazz and flair when it came to handling the contestants who went on the show. They don't come any more flamboyant or eccentric as Richard O'Brian.

in series 4 of the crystal maze industrial zone was replaced by the ocean zone.

and the other zones games where nearly all changed to new ones.

I use to love this show too, and its not really aged that much as my kids regularly watch the reruns.
Great family entertainment which can be enjoyed by all ages. I'd say bring it back but I dont think anyone could top Richard, that other guy was rubbish.

yes i jus noticed this other fella that did the two final series of CM.

its not that he is so bad its just tricky ricky as richard referred to himself in one episode is better.

i wonder why richard did not do the last 2 series.
