  • late 80's TV drama - What was it?

Looking to find the name of a UK TV drama I think late 80's strarring Tony Britton (father in Robin's Nest) (or someone a lot like him). About a University professor, whose wife suddenly leaves him. She was a gambler and lost all their retirement savings.
He has to start over again, waiting tables in London, meets a younger girl, but is still searching for his missing wife.

    Can anyone remember this show?

It deffo rings a bell my friend, don't think it was Tony Britton though -
I can practically picture whoever it was in my mind

I will ponder on this and get back to you ( if I don't then I've failed and will go through life as a bitter, twisted shadow of my former self)

I sure I remember it to Danny, if its the one I'm thinking of the very first episode starts with the old couple standing outside looking at their home, and the man saying something like "well this is it everything we worked for, now its time to relax and ENJOY it" To wihich she say's "but it's all a lie, its all gone, the house the car everything"

Phew had to get that out, its been going round my head since the OP. LOL
