The iconic HTV series from the 1970s, The Georgian House and Children of the Stones, were broadcast on different days in the HTV region from the rest of the ITV network.
The Georgian House was broadcast in the HTV region at 5:35pm on Sundays from 28 December 1975 to 8 February 1976. This Sunday ‘teatime’ slot was devoted to family orientated programmes at the time.
Five days later, The Georgian House was networked in other ITV regions in the children’s programme timeslot at 4:20pm on Fridays from 2 January to 13 February 1976. HTV showed A Place to Hide in their region instead, that had been networked in other ITV regions on the previous Sunday.
Children of the Stones was networked in other ITV regions in the children’s programme timeslot at 4:45pm on Mondays from 10 January to 21 February 1977. HTV showed a repeat of the Georgian House instead. A rare instance when an ITV company was networking one of its own programmes whilst simultaneously showing another of its own programmes in its own region.
HTV decided to broadcast Children of the Stones in its own region two days after it had been networked, at a later time of 6:30pm on Wednesdays from 12 January to 23 February 1977. An article in the Thursday 13 January edition of the Western Daily Press suspects that Children of the Stones will attract a substantial adult audience. Granada was showing University Challenge. Southern was showing Day by Day. Other regions were showing Crossroads.
The Georgian House was repeated in other ITV regions at 4:15pm on Fridays from 10 June to 22 July 1977. HTV West was showing The Adventures of Black Beauty. HTV Wales was showing the Welsh language programme, Taro’miaen.
Children of the Stones was repeated in the HTV Wales region at 1:00 or 1:15pm on Sundays from 16 July to 27 August 1978. This was not a children’s or family orientated programme timeslot. Other ITV regions were showing their own programmes.
Children of the Stones was repeated in the HTV West and other ITV regions at 4:15pm on Fridays from 21 July to 1 September 1978. HTV Wales was showing the Welsh language programme, Camau Cantamil.
Both programmes have never since been repeated on television.
