Thriller or Tales of the Unexpected

Desperate to find out what the film or programme was that featured a story about an american in a classic car gets petrol from old garage where the owner throws hiom the key to pump. He is on way to a party in a country house that burns down, he rescues the hostess then he wakes up in hospital only to find the house burnt down years ago...but he still has the key to the petrol station that closed years before ...was it an episode of thriller or Tales of the Unexpected ...can anyone help?

Hammer house of horror.?
I know what you mean Saturday or more likely Sunday night about 9pm..there was one where a man was bricked up alive that gave me nightmares. It predates the Charles and Di wedding because it looked weird on a colour tv with the colour set so there was an aura around the people at my aunts, we didn't get one until the royal wedding.

Checked it out and nope...it aint armchair...perhaps I dreamt it...in a spooky kinda flashback way....
If I did...it would be a perfect tale...

It was def a British film but Im sure the guy drving the car etc was american

Not Hammer House of Horror, or old Twilight Zone. Was it in B/W or colour?

I think the plot sounds quite similar to a story from the TV series "Journey to the Unknown," which was made by Hammer in 1968. Specifically, the episode could have been "Poor Butterfly." Many episodes featured an American in the lead role as Hammer were keen on selling the series to the USA, and it may have had partial US finance behind it.
