For some reason the largest fanbase of the Gerry Anderson series UFO is Italy. Italians are crazy about the series.
anyone know why this is the case?

That's easy to answer. It's simply because Italians don't have any taste .

Space 1999 was also popular in Italy, not surprising that RAI co-produced it.

I was also a big hit in France, Germany and Japan according to Roger Fulton's guide to TV Science Fiction.
