This has been a source of mystification to me for a few years now.

Series is supposedly set in late sixties and the city cop had enough after the student riots in London so he got a transfer to a country town cop-shop.

Eighteeen years later , despite showing all the winters and Christmases since the series began, it's still set in late sixties (Groundhog day ?)

    Same with 'allo 'allo.
Was on TV for ten years but the war only lasted for 6!
I go back to the original Jethro Tull - Yes! The seed drill inventor!

Maybe Aidensfield is 'The Land That Time Forgot'?

I never thought about that before - cool .

Yes it is true still in the sixtees in Heartbeat but we,ve gone through quite a few sergeants,pc,s the series that has been on sky channels lately, was when Nick Berry was a bobby.

          Re: Heartbeat

On Heartbeat's Wikipedia page, there are several paragraphs about the chronology and history. Evidently, the original few series did mention that it was 1964, 65, etc until they got to 1969. But since then there have been very few references to the year in which each episode is taking place. I think it is now just generically, 'the sixties'.

            Re: Heartbeat

I've often wondered if each series of Heartbeat was less than a year long, but it seems to be trapped in a timewarp.

M*A*S*H* managed to last 12 years, when the Korean war lasted from 1950 to 1953.

              Re: Heartbeat

Would be really good if the makers of heartbeat brought it forward and did a series taking it into the 1970s. now that i would like..

I wondered that too, though they'll have to be careful not to make it into a Life On Mars "Lite".

                      Re: Heartbeat

I was just looking to help with this one, Herr, and you beat me to it.

I'll just add that Heartbeat is currently going out at 5.50pm weekdays on - as you say - ITV3. One needs to go to ITV.com and find the 'watch live' icon - which is not as easy as it sounds! lol. This link may help:
                      Heartbeat - ITV Drama

I've looked round the video sites I know and can't find any other old episodes uploaded and available to view.
