what was that 70s TV show about seaweed men?

Growing up in the 70s in Australia we used to have a Saturday morning tv show (I'm sure it was American) about seaweed men who lived in a cave next to a beach. They were quite friendly and some local boys used to come and visit them on their way to surfing at the beach. Even their dad used to visit. But I can't find any evidence of this show on the internet. Does anyone know which one I'm talking about? It wasn't a cartoon - they were real people acting and the seaweed people were in costumes. It was such a great show!!
