  • Old silent movies

I remember as a lad in the 70's watching clips of old silent movies, which were usually on around Christmas and ran for about 90 minutes, called The Golden age of Comedy. Clips of the silent movie giants were shown Chaplin, Keaton Laurel and Hardy, etc
Slapstick comedy at its very best, its a pity they never repeat programmes like this

Wasn't it presented by Bob Monkhouse? Harold Lloyd was my favourite

It was a documentary style film with a narrator talking about the film clip we were about to watch. Just been reading on The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) about them Apparently Harold Lloyd clips could not be shown as Harold would not let the director, Robert Youngson use them. In addition I seem to remember an interview with Bob Monkhouse in which he was none to complimentary about Robert Youngson. Im not sure but I think Bob Monkhouse had bought the rights to some of the old silent movies

I remember Mark Curry used to present a show that used to feature a few silent films, normally on mid afternoon on school holidays.
