After 37 yrs of last of the summer wine it finishes this weekend on sunday.
Its so sad to see such a top comedy show ending.
its bee part of my entire life and im sure many others lives on here
This is another classic biting the dust.
i for one will surely miss it.

was listening to the news earlier and they say it has brought huge trade to where it was filmed.
and they expect it to continue to attract tourists long after its gone.

ill never forget compo, norah batty etc.

    HOPE IT COMES BACK SOMEDAY.
well it will always be repeated.

WHAT ARE MEMBERS MEMORIES OF THIS GREAT SHOW.

I remember watching it a lot as I was growing up - Sunday nights through the '80s. I think I stopped watching it at the end of the '90s. After Bill Owen died, the show seemed to lose it's way and on the rare occasion I caught it recently, it seemed to have become an elderly actor's pension scheme - many names and faces from other TV shows of the past putting in appearances. I know it wasn't the original line-up, but I always considered the Compo, Foggy & Clegg years to be the most memorable.

I went to Holmfirth (where it was largely filmed) in 2002 with a friend, and the place thrives on LOTSW. We had a drink and a scone in Sid & Ivy's Cafe - which is real, and looked at an exhibition about the show in Compo's house (next to Nora Batty's) just up the road from the Cafe. There were walking and bus tours all based on the show, and I think you're absolutely right about the town attracting visitors because of the sitcom for many years yet.

Not before time. This should have been put out to grass many moons ago

I agree. Didn't Foggy leave and then come back years later? Or is that just my imagination?
I worked backstage for a panto in 1988/89 and Jonathan Linsley was one of the stars. He had played 'Crusher' Milburn, the café owner's nephew?? in the show. But that was some time before his appearence in the panto and he had lost so much weight, many people didn't recognise him!

Who was in the original line up? I remember Compo, Foggy and Clegg when I started watching it, then Foggy left and there was another old guy with grey hair (realise that is a bit of a meaningless description when talking about actors on last of the summer wine lol!), then I think you are right Foggy came back for a bit then I stopped watching it.

Originally it wasn't Foggy. Michael Bates played a character who knocked about with Clegg and Compo, but this was way before I started watching it. In the '80s, Foggy (Brian Wilde) left and was replaced by Seymour (Michael Aldridge). Foggy returned towards the end of the '80s.

Got to agree with Sixtyten though.

Re: last of the summer wine finishing this weekend.

After Brian Wilde left in the mid 1980s he was replaced by Eidie's brother Seymour played be Michael Aldridge.

From about 1984 to 1996 I used to almost always watch it.

I don't think it was ever the same after Bill Owen died.

It lost all credibility (ha!) for me when Hilda Ogden joined the cast...

I probably watched it from about '82-'90. Loved it when I was a kid, started losing it's appeal and became a bit stale anyway when I turned into a moody teenager. Can anyone remember Wally, Nora Batty's husband? I liked him.

I wanted to for old time's sake but I was out so I missed it. I watched it last week actually for the first time in years. I hope Pearl took poor Howard back in the end...or did he run away with Marina once and for all?

I rememeber watching it for a while in the mid 80's and occasionally ever since, I suppose it was a nice gentle comedy suitable for a Sunday evening. I'm going to watch the last episode on the iplayer as it is the end of an era.
