In terms of kids TV, it was up to my older brother in the 1980s.

He's mainly keep ITV on, but switch for progs like Grange Hill.

Used to like the serious stuff that'd be on near 5pm like Choccy

Probably 75/25 BBC/iTV - ie mostly BBC but iTV for a few things, or as a last resort if nothing else good was on the "main" channels...

Top of the pops? For me it was supersonic. Much better as i liked the bit where mike mansfield, in the control room, would introduce each band with:

    "cue the music"

    the list is endless:

    +the golden shot

    +blockbusters ("give me a 'p' please bob")

    +rainbow

+pipkins (was that raggedy old hare hartley voiced by kenneth williams?)

to name a few of many

We used to be mostly a BBC house. When dad wasn't around I used to turn it over for the more HIP stuff. By the time my sister came along in the early 80's we just seemed to watch whatever was the better program despite the channel it was on.

I dont think our parents knew the BBC existed...the tele never seemed to get turned over from ITV.....had to go to mates to watch things like Dr Who and Top Of The Pops

I'm Pretty certain we were an ITV household through the 70's. Certainly I prefered their childrens programmes to the BBC's on the whole. Saturdays being the exception because Doctor Who was on then (although i have to confess to abandoning it for much of Tom Bakers last series because I felt it had got too silly and preferred Buck Rodgers on ITV at the time.) ITV just seemed to have better kids shows. King of the Castle, Sky, Tomorrow People - stuff like that.

    QUOTE
Jeremy Beadle was cleverer than all of them put together. I met him once at a satellite tv show at G-Mex and he was sharp as a tack. RIP, he was a nice guy, dunno why he was hated.

I am glad I am not the only one that liked Jeremy Beadle. I think his image came across as smug, but he was really decent bloke in real life. He did huge amounts of work with charities outwith his TV work. I remember watching the tribute to him just after he died and was moved to tears. Sharp as a tack and very quick witted, very similar to Bob Monkhouse who many people also dispised( I also think Bob was great to)

One problem CITV had on ITV1 was restrictions on the number of ads that could be shown.
