  • Cartoons that influenced you as a child.....

Me and my husband were having a chat this morning about cartoons and I started talking about how I used to love The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and that the only reason I tried pizza was because one of the turtles always ate pizza and it looked soooooo good! I had this idea in my head what it would taste like etc and wanted some so bad but when I tried it, I was very dissapointed lol My husband then told me that the only reason he ate lasagne when he was a child, was because he loved Garfield and he always ate it! LOL

So I was just wondering if anyone else was influenced like this by cartoons aswell???

I can't remember being influenced by cartoons other than wanting to be the characters sometimes, like Princess from Battle of the Planets and at one stage, Hong Kong Phooey. We had a battered little old bible that was just the right size to become my Hong Kong book of Kung Fu.

I used to love Popeye but it didn't give me a craving for Spinach, thank goodness! I never believed it would make you strong like that!
The people of Oman don't like the Flintstones but the people of Abu Dhabi do!

I'm pretty sure Popeye's love of spinach must have been a deliberate attempt to try to get children to eat it. It didn't work with me either, although I do like it now.

...and Charlie Brown. I was always impressed by anything Linus had to say, he always seemed so cerebral. I think Peanuts was the genesis of Dawson's Creek.

I attempted to draw/write the Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu when I realised it wasn't something you could buy in WH Smith. I got to page 2.

When we played Scooby Doo I always had to be Velma when I really wanted to be Daphne.

Apart from that I don't think cartoons influenced me.

I don't think cartoons influenced me much either! (runs through wall leaving a 'me' shaped hole.)

Watching the original 'Astro Boy' in the 60's started my life-long love of animé.

I wouldn't say that cartoons influenced me, but much to my parents delight all the cartoons kept me quiet, lol.
But the one that grinded my teeth, was the 'Roadrunner' I so wanted him to be caught!.

Tom and Jerry annoy me, the cat was always getting told off, hit and thrown out, nasty old woman and the mouse got away with everything!!! To this day, if I see the cartoon, I have to turn it off lol

I had a thing about wanting to be Penelope Pitstop. Loved her!

I begged my mother to let me have red sandals one summer when I was about 5 or 6 as she had red boots. I wore them every day and ran about the garden on tip toes just like she ran!

Needless to say the sandals only lasted about 2 weeks. I was gutted!

Thinking about it now I may just have to go and buy myself a pair of knee-high red boots!!!

Tom and Jerry annoyed you? Oh come on, the early ones were utterly sublime. "Slicked up Pup" and "Baby Puss" (both available on Youtube) are two of the most side-splittingly funny cartoons of all time!

Scooby Doo influenced me, why only last week i was running down the street with my Dog and i felt the urge to run into a cupboard then hop out minutes later with us both dressed as Barbers.
