    Re: Monkey Magic

There is a very good fansite at http://www.monkeyheaven.com/

For years I heard it mentioned in old TV books, but only got to see it when the first episode was shown as a part of Japanese TV night on BBC Choice.

A few years later it was shown on Channel 4 & I managed to watch quite a bit of it.

At the same time I got a translation of the original novel, which is a good read.

fantastic show remember watching it in the eighties on bbc 2.
watched it again when it was on channe 4 a few yr back.

the fella who played pigsy in the first series had to quit because his son got badly bullied for how his dad looked in the show as pigsy.

Monkey was brilliant! I never realised it was Japanese until I saw it again as a grown up. Funny how you don't notice such things when you are young.

after all those years, it was brilliant to watch it again, they don't make em like that anymore

was such a shame for the actor who played Tripitaka, she died at a tender age of 27

Yeah I remember reading that a few years ago, very sad indeed and at such a young age too. I'm certain I also remember reading that the bloke who played Sandy went into politics and did his best to distance himself away from his role in the show. If being in Monkey and then getting into politics isn't enough distance then I don't know what is!

You can watch all the episodes on YouTube if you search for each episode:
              Monkey #1
The user who has them all is called Fonymind
I'm on my 4th watch of the entire series!

                Re: Monkey Magic

I did keep a tape at least one tape from the Channel 4 repeats, some episodes seemed better than others, which put me off buying a full set (unless it was really cheap).

Re: Come on everybody. You know it.. Monkeeeyyy!!!

it seems a lot of the main cast either died young distanced them selves from it and in the case of the actor who played the original pigsy quit because his son was bullied.
what about the actor who played monkey.

                      Re: Monkey Magic

From what I've read, the first actor to play Pigsy had signed up to another show before the 2nd series was commisioned, & wasn't available.

seems we habe heard different things mate.

u definitely heard though that 2 people have played pigsy.
maybe it was a combination of both things we heard mate.

i heard this from a fella i know who lives in japan.
