    Re: Top of the Pops

Yes they did the countdown to Whole Lotta Love but it was a kind of orchestratype version if I remember correctly.

I didn't realise Midge Ure was involved with Yellow Pearl - he co wrote it and played synths on it!

Ah, but between 1978 and 1981 (when Yellow Pearl started), the Top 30 countdown was shown to a clip from one of the songs in the chart that week.

Used to love the chart countdown pictures. Everyone looked so serious, usually gazing into middle distance trying to appear serious/sexy/mysterious/dangerous according to the singer/band's image.

            Wouldn't that have been great?

What about the ones that had stayed the same?

Point proven Stockport. Apart from Nick Berry who let you down with that cheesy grin.

So what was the name of that music?

He really ought to have done the thumbs up as well, he would've gone up so much in my estimation.

Paul Hardcastle (of N-N-N-N-Nineteen fame) and 'The Wizard'.

                            why did it finish.
was it because it was not hip and trendy out of date.
it was a great show for helping new talent show itself.
and also established stars continually appeared on it.
                            it was a phenomenal show.

the best music show britain has ever had.

Was just saying to my wife a couple of days ago that not being allowed to listen to the radio at work TOTP was how I used to keep track of the best new songs in the charts. These days I haven't a clue!!
