  • Ashes to Ashes

I know this was not made in the 80's, and I am a bit behind the curve here, but I just got around to watching the first few episodes...

    AWESOME!

Some great nostalgic music and scenes, and, of course, a red Audi Quattro!

Really looking forward to watching the rest of this great series

For me its a poor mans version of life on mars, I suppose it depends on what your formative years are

Agreed. Watchable but not a patch on Life on Mars.

I found it not quite as good as LOM.

One problem was being set early in 1981-3 but trying to homage the whole decade.

I'm ashamed to say I've never seen a full episode of Life on Mars nor Ashes To Ashes! Am I missing something good?

              Re: Ashes to Ashes

I enjoyed it just as much as Life on Mars - series 1 was 1981, 2 was 1982 and 3 was 1983. I don't recall any references to any time after that

Some for the decor in Sam's looked a bit more 1984/5 than 1981.

During a stakeout the regulars split into the A & B Teams, to make a pun, but it wasn't OTT.

                  Re: Ashes to Ashes

I enjoyed both programmes equally.I think life on mars was more factual and ashes to ashes more genetic and stereotipocal but I would have still enjoyed another spinoff.

A 1990s set one called Tin Machine or Glass Spider?

Saw David Bowie on his Glass Spider tour at Man City's old Maine Road ground in the late 80's. Support was Terence Trent Darby and Alison Moyet. I have never seen either series but wondered why they are named after Bowie songs?

Life On Mars does have the line "Law men beating up the wrong guy" which kind of sums up Gene Hunt's methods.
