sweet also known as the sweet, were a British rock band that rose to worldwide fame in the 1970s as one of the most prominent
glam rock acts with the line up of brian connolly steve priest andy scott and mick tucker.

Sweet formed in 1968 and achieved their first hit Funny Funny in 71 after teaming up with songwriters nicky chinn and mike chapman.

Since the mid 1980s, Scott, Connolly and Priest have each played with their own versions of Sweet during different periods of time.
Connolly died in 1997, and Tucker in 2002.
The two surviving members are still active in their respective versions of the band; Scott's is based in the UK and Priest in the USA

The band achieved notable success in the UK charts, with thirteen Top 20 hits during the 1970s alone, with blockbuster in 73 topping the chart,
followed by three successive number two hits in Hell Raiser 1973 ballroom blitz in 1973 and teenage rampage in 74.

The Sweet were one of my favourite childhood bands. I loved the way they used to dress up and look really outrageous on stage.

i first saw sweet live in edinburgh 1974 and they were a lot louder and heavier than on record , they also played a lot of songs they penned themselves which were more rock than the pop sucess they were having at the time...

So sad how many of our music heroes from yesteryear have passed on...
Recently, I found some editions of PopSwop, Melanie & Music Star magazines from 1973 / 1974. The Sweet, Marc Bolan, Michael Jackson and Elvis were all pin-ups of the era, so it felt a little eerie, reading about them all these years later.

I wasn't a big fan, but "Love is Like Oxygen" is very haunting.

They weren't a bad wee band, some of their stuff sounded a bit heavy, Turn It Down, for example. I have their Greatest Hits CD.
