In my opinion the greatest trainers ever made are these.
Nike Air Jordan mk5, originally made in 1990.
I got my first pair on Red Nose Day in 1991 for a bargain price, the colours were the ones shown in the pic above.
I've since owned a few other pairs (including some lovely all white ones) and would love some new ones, however, the prices are absolutely ridiculous these days.
But there you go, Air Jordan 5s, My favourite trainers ever.
Air Jordan IV's are my all time faves, had a Black/Red/Cement pair of these back in the day, but I was a major sneaker head then and had heaps. Air Flights, Air Force Mids, Air Max, and many Jordans, had IV's through to VIIs, in lots of different colours. I used to buy them in America when we went there.

I even had a pair of Air Jordan VI Carmines, which I kept, they were in okay nick, here they are with my Air Force Mids (also had all Blue):

I sold these Jordans this year for $580, they couldn't even be worn as the black pair I had fell apart when I tried the year before!

Anyway, that was after school, my school day trainers were whatever my parents bought, usually Gola or something. Then I had some Reebok Royals, HiTec High Tops, Pumas, Troops, Travel Fox etc.

Now I have Adidas Superstars, a couple of Air Max 90s, and a selection of other adidas and Nike trainers. I guess old habits die hard.

been wearing trainers since i was young under ten.

i liked the trainers that you wore which had no laces instead one side was like sticky and you puulled someting from one side then it would stick to the other side thus tightening the trainers.
        hope i explained this right.
Sadly I never had any Trainers like these Darren, but I recall these now you mention them, Darren. It was like you gave them air (like pumping a bike tyre up - sort of) though with less hard work. It is strange how these went out of fashion (or appeared to) after about 3/4 years when they had been portrayed as the next mega idea of their era in the early 1990s.

Without doubt this Trainers - they were class for the era no doubts, just like high tonges were in this era and the invention of red and green/lime green ones etc too

wow i never thought theyd come back i must try to find them.

only prob with trainers is they are not waterproof.

i always got the ones without laces u tightened them using this sticky thing i cant quite describe it.

I know what you mean Darren - I think it's Velcro or something quite similar!

I have had some Trainers like them too - as it don't involve tying them being a principal reason I found as having the "laces ones" involved tying them and if they were'nt laced cool-etc - I found people got laughed at for this (as this involved the trends in terms of Trainers as much as the Trainers themelves too).

Who else can recall the Football Club Themed Trainers from about 1992-1994 (I'm unsure who made them, possibly Diadora)!! These were well cool and novel - I once had one pair, (Liverpool) and wore them all the time until some creep at School threatened to report me for wearing them - which sort of brought an early end to my love affair with them!

Amazingly though I've never seen any before or since! .... how strange

Indeed escorteclipse1990 - I agree! Though the wearing (or non wearing of them at School has removed it quite lot), but even when I went to F.E College from the middle of the 1990s, it was still rife and still was after re - Stan Smiths v Vans etc and I have heard that the likes of Vans are not even allowed for PE at Schools now!

What about "Trainer Lacing" - what ideas did you have/or styles did you employ to lace your Trainers?

Be cool to hear other's views!

Adidas Superstars (Shelltoes) were/are always nice.
The more recent releases of Reebok Pump were pretty good, especially the Omni Lite.
The various Patrick Ewing high tops were also pretty close to the originals.
Nike's Air Force 1s are always winners.
But nothing beats the good Air Jordans.
Most Jordans are terrible, but the nicest ones are the greatest trainers ever released.
Jordan 1s are awesome, as are 4s & 7s, but the 5s are the best trainers ever, especially in Grape/Emerald.
If I still had the ones I bought in the early '90s, mint in the original box, I would be sitting on an absolute fortune.

Same here, Jordan IVs are my all time faves. I sold a non-boxed pair of hardly worn Jordan VI Carmines I'd kept since the 90s for enough to buy an Xbox One. They weren't even wearable due to their age.
Still wear Superstars, Air Force Ones and Air Max 90s now. Would loce another pair of Black/grey/red Jordan IVs.

As for lacing, I still lace my trainers the way I always did, crossing over, with the outside cross on the top.

HALF OF THEM IVE NOT HEARD OF OR CANT REMEMBER.

I HAD ONES WHICH DIDNT HAVE LACES U JUST HAD A STRAP U PULLED ACROSS AND IT ATTACHED TO A STICKYISH THING.
IT WAS HANDY AS AT THAT TIME I COULD NOT TIE MY LACES.

                            AIR JORDANS JUST FOR YOU.
