  • sarsaparilla

Anyone remember sarsaparilla pop.used to have it delivered by corona great on a hot summers day with one of those small blocks of ice cream dropped in. funny how the older you get the more you crave things from your childhood.

No but my mum has often mentioned it from when she was young. What did it taste like?

Sort of like a stronger version of root beer and definitely a love or hate thing.Barr also made it and was often sold in chip shops well into the 80s. i suspect it was more of a northern thing.

I loved it! You can still get the hard boiled sweet version in some shops.

              Re: sarsaparilla

as a kid used to go to a market in east street (S.E. london) on a sunday morning there was a man who would walk around with a barrow and sell baldwins sarsaparilla cordial in bottles or sell it by the cup either hot or cold there was nothing nicer then a cup of hot `sasparilla whilst walking around the market in the rain.
still get bottles of it now funny enough sarsaparilla and root beer are the only things i know i can keep in my fridge without my kids nicking `em as they insist they both taste like cough syrup or mouthwash

I had a bottle of Mawson's Saparilla recently, slightly odd taste but nice once I got used to it.
