My Mum's

Does anyone remember a cut-price brand of food from the 80's called My Mum's and have any info about what happened to them?

I remember you could buy all sorts of their stuff, bread, salt, crisps etc. and possibly not just food stuff either. From what I can remember, the packaging was bright yellow. I've searched all over the place for information about them but can't find any details or pictures.

I remember that the Fine Fare had a 'Yellow Pack' range. Not heard of My Mum's brand.

Yes I remember My Mum's! Our local general dealers had it as their cheap brand for a while. The packaging was indeed bright yellow with My Mum's written in blue and on a diagonal in the style of hand writing. I have no idea what happened to the brand though.

im sure we never had had my mums brand over here.

perhaps certain parts of the country had this brand.

Don't know the brand you mention but interesting to know...but while we're on about 'My Mum's' - remember MUM deodorant? The song used to go:

My Mum's better than your Mum! No! MY Mum's better than your's!'

My Mum actually used to sing that - one time she said it to me in front of my Dad and I simply replied:

Yes, she is isn't she....

My Dad got the joke and nearly wet himself with laughter - it was only then my Mum realised what she'd said....lol...

I remember some My Mum's products were around from about 1987 to 1992, I think they might have been sold through certain discount shops.

Just thinking where I saw them, my local corner shop stocked them and we'd usually buy the biscuits such as Custard Creams.

Brilliant, thanks! I'm not going mad then as other people remember them too, I'd forgotten about the funny quotes they used to put on some items!

I remember the local corner shop stocked loads of their stuff, probably around 1985 or so but it seems they were around long before that.

I'm not certain on this, but I think they might have changed their name to Happy Shopper.
Like I say, i'm not 100% by any means, but I think I remember My Mum's disapearing around the same time Happy Shopper appeared.
Any out there know any better ???

I think 'My Mums' was part of the 'Happy Shopper' family in the 80s and 90s. Both were brands of the Booker Cash & Carry business which specialised in supplying independent local shops. Booker still has goods under the 'Happy Shopper' name and still supplies cash & carry but it concentrates now on its own portfolio of 'Premier' local shops and markets most of its own-brand stuff under the 'Premier' brand. They also own the 'Euroshopper' brand. They also briefly owned the 'Mace' brand in England & Wales before selling it to Palmer & Harvey in 1999 (and in 2005 P&H acquired the Scottish Mace business which had been hived off years earlier, along with the Irish business) - Mace was my local store as a kid in the 70's but I havent seen one for ages, although I understand they still have a big presence in Northern Ireland

There's a Mace shop at a petrol station not too far from me.

I'm sure I've seen a Mace shop recently.

I saw a Mace store in North Yorkshire the other week too. I remember in the 80's adverts for shops called 'Mace and Wavy Line'

My mums brand of discounted goods was produced by Linfood Cash & Carry. The range of goods went from bread to cola, matches to cat litter. The packaging was bright yellow with red text, sometimes with a white speech bubble containing a little quip about the product. Later adding red images and sometimes an image of a little boy and girl, surprise in red, with one telling the other about the product in a speech bubble. The cola can is the only one I remember that was multi-coloured adding blue to the otherwise red and yellow.

From memory the speech bubble messages were "keep away from tiny hands and it's dangerous to touch matches" Matches, "sends tiny bubbles up your nose" Cola, "stops kitty's bottom getting smacked" Cat Litter, and "ready, breaded, go" Fish Fingers.

Linfoood was took over by Booker Cash & Carry in the late 80's early 90's.

As they owned Happy Shopper the My Mums brand was instantly dropped.

I am here because I found a ‘my mums orangeade’ can whilst litterpicking today
