Sadly this is something ive noticed with maltesers.

Can you remember when you started noticing the difference.

There were some brand seen advertised in some 1980s women's magazines called Pek. Could it be that one?

It's a few years ago I'd say ..

They were moorish and I the boxes were a nightmare to leave alone but now I don't even consider buying any of them ...

Many of my faves have stayed the same so it's not my tastebuds ..

Those 'cheese' biscuits youncould only buy in cafes and swimming baths

two,or four ,to a packet....comprising two crackers with some weird indeterminate cheese type concoction in the middle that was a bit gritty

or the fruit cake you could only get in little sealed plastic packets in cafes that was almost 99.99% pure fruit and could have fed an Arctic expedition for a month

I think that the cardboard was included in the wrapper as Bounty bar chocolate came in two parts, didn't it, so that it kept both pieces together. However, I am certain that this wasn't implicated in the adverts when the people on the beach had theirs.

As the walnut isn't included with in the Walnut Whips these days, I bet people will wonder what happened to the walnuts themselves, never mind any flavour variation of the product.

vesta Crispy noodles?

Were they like Batchelors (and for a while Kellogg's) Super Noodles, or were they like Pot Noodle?

I always had in my mind that Vesta mostly did "boil in the bag" stuff and curries. Vesta has had a low profile as well over recent years i.e. they don't advertise on TV anymore; I have not seen their products in supermarkets etc.

The Vesta crispy noodles were included with, I think, their Chow Mein. They were in a little sellophane packet and you had to cook them in a chip pan. Get the fat really hot then put them in and there was a glorious sizzling noise as they puffed out. Then you put them on top of your cooked Chow Mein. I think Vesta also included a packet of soy sauce to pour onto your crispy noodles.

In the 1990s, was reading a children's book at school, possibly Gene Kemp's Tyke Tiler or Gowie Corby, and Vesta meals got an honorable mention inside the book - it was written in the early 1970s I think, because the kids in my class were laughing at the mention of Vesta meals only being 20p or something.

In the 70s there just wasn't the availability of exotic, foreign food like there is today. I suppose in the cities and large towns there were chinese and indian restaurants/take-aways, but Vesta meals was as exotic as it got for many. I liked their chow mein and chop suey, and occasionally a chicken curry, though I am not a big fan of curry. A previous poster mentioned they were boil-in-the-bag, but my memory of them is that they weren't. For their chicken curry, rice came in one packet and the dried curry in another, and you had to pour the contents into two saucepans, add water, then boil and allow to simmer for a certain time. All this talk of Vesta meals has really made me fancy one of their chow meins.

I was never a fan of boil-in-the-bag food - I remember getting some spaghetti and meatballs from Iceland and being annoyed that I had to cook it while it was still in the plastic packaging.
