Re: What have you ate today to remind you of the 70s
Not a lot people seem to know that scampi has only existed since WW2.
Scampi is made from the meat of Nephrops norvegicus commonly known as the Norway lobster / Dublin Bay prawn / Langoustine. It is a crustacean and not a fish.
Commercially produced scampi is often adulterated with cheaper white fish. This is despite Nephrops norvegicus originally being cheaper than fish, and the reason for inventing scampi was a way of commercially using them as they were previously thrown away by fishermen.
A science teacher told me similar things about scampi. He would eat scampi at home because he knew what he was eating but he would never eat scampi in a pub or a restaurant.
Re: What have you ate today to remind you of the 70s
I haven't had fish fingers in ages. Must get the wife to buy some. Fish fingers and chips with peas or beans was my favourite meal at school. We would have it about once a week.
Not sure if you can still get them but I also liked beans with those little sausages in the tin. There was also a version with mini burgers replacing the sausages. Have to keep my eyes peeled for some for some more 70s nostalgia.
Re: What have you ate today to remind you of the 70s
You can indeed get beans and sausages in a tin still, I believe that Heniz make them. I too haven't had fish fingers in years, them with chips and beans was a favourite of mine too. I also remember spam fritters from school in the 90s.
Re: What have you ate today to remind you of the 70s
Thanks for the confirmation about beans and sausages in tins. For some reason I preferred that to just beans on their own, even if we also had sausages cooked separately. Yes, must get some.
