  • Instant Mash Type of Thing !!!

Sorry about the naff title to the thread but I cant really think how to describe it...

Anyway, as the title suggests, in the mid 70's there was a product which I think was made by smash that was almost the same but you mixed it with cold water and then you could mould it into shapes and you shallow fried it.
It tasted lovely but it wasnt out very long.

I know I havebnt imagined it ... I can still taste it now,

Around the same time there was an instant ice cream mix which you added milk to and bunged in the freezer for a couple of hours..
There was an italian bloke on the tv ad for it who said :
"Justa like-a my Mamma useda to make-a"

    Anyone remember either of these.

Think it was a pseudo-italian name that ended in ... "ELLI " or something. ( as most Italian things do, so not narrowed it down much)

I remember Gino Ginelli! I'm sure that was a range of readymade ice cream though, particularly remember there being a fudge one that had big pieces of fudge in it, it was lovely but not around for long

                    Re: gino ginelli

I'm researching instant potato brands for an article I'm writing, and this shapable one (see original post) intrigues me. I've seen a picture of Cadbury's Smashers "crispy fry potato mix" in a 1970 newspaper article, but they look a bit like croquettes on the bag (I don't think this brand lasted very long).

Does anyone remember Dine? Another 1960s Mars-owned brand (alongside Yeoman, and later Wondermash).

The ice cream powder, was it called CHILLO? and the pseudo Italian presenter said "Chillo the ice cream that you cook in da fridge" In a pseudo Italian accent.

The powdered mash Dine, I think you may find a picture of it in one of those Robert Opie package books? got a girls face on it?
