Merelite or Merelizer ??

I was about to go on holiday to the Isle of Man for the TT Races in 1976 and remember a strange new package that came out for fizzy drinks - (please excuse my spelling of this word as I have never seen it again)

It was a long thin PVC type tube with a rip strip at the end, that you inserted a straw into - I think it was called the Merelite of Merelizer pack?

Never seen it again ,any ideas you lot?

Yes, I remember them.

But they were not frozen drinks, they were gassy and had brandnames of pop in them, and when you ripped the opening tab from the top they had about 8 holes to push the straw through, might be wrong but in the back of my mind ICI could have perfected them, ongoing eh?

Yes, they were not frozen, don't know why I put that bit.
Yes, branded drinks.. must have won an award for design. Very short lived.
You are the only other person I've met who recalls them

"Drink a meri mate... they're great mate" was the slogan

"They were as hard as steel pipes when they were unopened & shaken."

Also theres mention of an advert where a truck drives over the tubes to show how strong they are

Your picture is spot on - MeriMates I dont know about but i'm sure ICI is a good lead, I opened one up in the garden back in 76 and YES it was a "rock hard tube"

Impressed,very impressed. Oh, it might have had a mention on Tomorrows World, I loved that prog.

Excuse my late reply. This is fantastic! Yes, made by ICI, but the one I remember drinking was somewhat longer than this, and I recall contained Fresca a sort of bitter lemon drink with a pale blue label with a starflake logo? How on earth did you find this image? Marvellous, and thanks.
