With music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, based on Ferenc Molnar's "Liliom", Carousel is set in New England between 1873 and 1888 and tells the story of fairground barker Billy Bigelow and his love for Julie Jordan.
