From Dublin on the fifth stage of John's European tour. Dublin has been described as "intimate as a village, sophisticated as a metropolis and as friendly as a pub". Is it any wonder then that it has produced some literary giants such as Shaw, Wilde and Joyce, and is home to one of the world's great beverages? Pure genius. Tony Staveacre reports on his visits to two festivals. First, the 1992 Glastonbury Festival. Did Lou Reed , Alison Moyet and Ned's Atomic Dustbin offer musical surprises? Where was the DIY psychedelia and how was the industrial strength scrumpy?
In contrast, the Great Elm Festival: very different musical delights, served up in a country kitchen.

Everyone can hum it. It's been around for nearly 70 years. The tune Tea for
Two seems so effortlessly simple and catchy that we might have almost written it ourselves. But behind its simple title is a truly great song. Jack Tinker serves up Tea for Two in many of its different guises and - by way of Broadway in the 1920s - reveals the complex mind of its composer, Vincent Youmans. Producer Angela Hind

Dave Gelly gives his appraisal of the life and singing career of the Boswell Sisters.
"Even when you know what to expect, the sound of the Boswells going full tilt can be a bracing experience. Together they'd managed to take the most modem jazz styles of the time and adapt them to their own form of close-harmony singing. Most past musical styles have been revived by latter-day groups; none have ever seriously tried to imitate the Boswell Sisters, leading to the conclusion that they really were - and are - inimitable."
                                Producer Barbara Page
