    Re: Laserdisc?

I remember there was a specialist shop in Manchester that stocked laserdics, but very much for film buffs.

Ironically it was assumed in the early 1980s it would became a standard format for home releases because they were cheaper at the time to mass produce compared to video tape, but the cost of 2 machines put people off doing this.

The late Tower Records of Piccadilly Circus used to have a section for them downstairs...

There was a Hi Fi shop in the Royals in Southend On Sea that sold them, they were definitely aimed at the movie buffs.

It's surprising how many people nowadays still watch DVDs on their fancy pants full HD Tvs and aren't bothered about watching Blu Rays instead, quite happy to not experience the best quality they could on their sets, I guess they're happy with the upscaling, but I rarely watch DVDs nowadays, unless it's on my projector for that old school cinema feel.

I've started buying Blu-rays, but a lot of things haven't been released on it yet (or too expensive!), & TV shows made on standard definition video tape can't be currently upscaled.

If I see a cheap DVD (now common in pound shops) I'll buy it if I like the look of it.

I buy movies on Blu Ray, but yes, if it's something cheap on DVD i'll get it. Bought The series of Mr Ben and Bagpuss on DVD from a charity shop for 1 pound last time i was in the UK. Thought my boy could watch them when older, to go with the Pingu and Trapdoor ones I have (although Pingu is on Netflix so he can watch that there).
