I've noticed even when rewatching the earlier One Foot In The Graves how many cars featured are now rare to see on the roads.

Re: Old cars in tv programmes/films
I recently got the TV version of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy which has lots of street scenes in the west end, along with a few scenes of motorway driving.
The scenes set in Brno were actually filmed in Glasgow, though it looked like they went to Lisbon. The Trickster On The Roof

Re: Old cars in tv programmes/films
Interesting points about the vehicles on the roads in old TV programmes. There are usually a lot of cars around at any moment in time which are at least a decade old. But it's incredible the speed at which these vehicles just disappear. For about five years up until 2005, I owned a succession of early '90s Rover 400 saloons (a 414Si, then a 418GSD), and at the time, the roads were still awash with other Rover 200s and 400s. These days, you very rarely see them at all, even the newest ones of that style are now about 16 years old. I go to classic car shows, and I sometimes see cars which I think are way too recent to be considered classics, then it hits me that those cars are over 20 years old.
On the subject of 'On The Buses' by the way, I never really saw it until I watched a couple of episodes on TV recently, I can take it or leave it, but I can do a passable Blakey impersonation."We're the Sweeney son, and we haven't had any dinner!"

You should come to North Wales, old cars are more common than new ones! My neighbours have: a sierra, mk3 Escort, Reliant Kitten, 2CV, Land Rover, an old Saab, and the old guy has a Humber! My Volvo S40 really stands out, it looks futuristic lolI collect game prices for retro consoles from eBay

Re: Old cars in tv programmes/films
The Sweeney and The Professionals are great TV shows to watch if you're old car spotting. It's quite sad that so many popular motors are now dwindling away in numbers. There is a website where you can check how many of a particular model are remaining on the UK roads:
How Many Left
Worth browsing to see how many of your old cars are now rarer than hen's teeth.
Cheers,

Re: Old cars in tv programmes/films
I've looked at that site before, It's surprising how many cars seemed to vanish almost overnight.
My Dad remembers there being lots of Renault 16's around until the early 1980's, but they seem to become a rare sight in a year or 2.The Trickster On The Roof

Re: Old cars in tv programmes/films
I flicked onto an episode of the Professionals today and spotted no less than 7 Cortinas, 4 Granadas, an RS-2000, an SD1, an Austin Princess and the Ford Capri, among other cars! Makes me wonder how much classic British tin is left on the roads, the oldest stuff I've seen knocking around recently is a couple of (Mint) Sierras on G and H plates. If it's lasted this long, it's worth keeping!

The Sweeney Granada - we had a lesser Consul NUW 507L probably crushed by nowsigpic
Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.
