It is nice to know what people have driven in the past, wish we could keep everything, but we cant!

I have Scirocco MK2 also, but everyday vehicle is the faithfull old Ford Escort Van!

Thank's people,it has the usual rust spots arriving so a visit to the bodyshop is due.It has the added bonus of worn valve seals so if anyone is driving too close I can produce a fair smoke cloud when needed. I know its not enviromently friendly but it does less than 1000 miles every year.
              Cheers Frame.

But far more environmentaly friendly than building a new one! Well thats the way I see it! I dont go far in my stuff either, just enough to keep em turning to and from MOT etc.

A garage in my locality had a escort mk1 mexico and an e type jag as window displays. The mexico had done 10,000 miles from new. They were in the showroom from when i was a child. The e type jag is still there but i have not seen the mexico there for months? The e type is still in excellent condition.

Still there? Must be a family owned car. I used to be mad for a Talbot Samba Cabriolet when you could pick em up for £300 but now they are quite desireable, in fact what other people practically laughed at me in, are now going up in price, so ..........

I've always had unusual cars because they were not needed for work as I had a company vehical (discovery with snorkel pack) If the car section comes up I shall post pictures of them.

                        Re: Chrysler/talbot alpine car?

The first car I drove was a 1976 Austin Allegro 1.3 Estate when I was 15. Not on the road (natch), I used to drive around a field in it. My first road car was a Fiat Panda - not the coolest of cars, but it was free and as a student at the time that was important. I've owned a couple of Escort Mk3s, Sierra Mk1 1.6, and some Rovers. I currently drive a Ford. Being a big fan of 'The Sweeney' I too would love to own a Consul 3.0 GT or Mk1 Granada. Mk1 Escorts, especially the performance versions such as the Mexico and RS models fetch mega money now. I don't know anyone who owned a Talbot Alpine, but I remember them being all over the roads in the early '80s.

I suppose I should add that although it's my forum name, I've never actually owned a Maxi, but being something of a petrolhead with a keen interest in '70s and '80s cars I usually go under the name of a car when I join a forum, and I must admit to liking the Austin Maxi.........and in case you're wandering, it's a Dodge Charger in my avatar. I drew it myself.

the first family car i remember was my dads "del boy" reliant van in primer grey.
The best one i remember was the Sunbeam Stiletto, had a race tuned engine with twin 50 weber carbs, it was a beast,
Heres me and my mother outside a family members house the day we got it.

I thought of this thread yesterday when I drove past a parked Talbot Alpine. It didn't look all that bad for an 'R'-registration ('77) in blue.

I spotted a Talbot Solara in Nelson a few weeks ago, which must have been the first one I had seen for ages.

Between Nelson I've spotted a few cars that are now rare, A Mk1 Capri, a Y reg Fiesta & a C reg Citroen BX come to mind.

Well done you CHRYSLER/TALBOT spotters! I reckon there are only about 32 left in England? And that is not many considering it had a long production run? They just got used and abused and then scrapped.
