Corbyn is someone who one could easily imagine representing a Nottingham City constituency, probably in Nottingham North where most residents have a fetish for socialism and trade unions. Priti Patel stood there in 2005, and she was at an event that I attended just after that year's General Election.

I hope that Harman won't be the next Labour leader - I am glad that Tom Watson stood down as well.

I have to admit that I am looking forward to the first few months of 2020, what with Brexit taking its course at the end of January, and also the Labour and Liberal Democrat leadership elections. Who needs soap operas when we have politics?

I actually think Boris will make a good Prime Minister as he will want to leave a great legacy ..

Same applies to Trump bizarrely .

Despite all their failings they are both proud even egotistical and won’t want to be remembered as abject failures

I hope Boris revitalises the NHS and makes it better than ever . Same for all the services - he’ll do it just to prove everyone wrong

At first I just shuddered when I thought of Johnson becoming Prime Minister, and I just couldn't believe that over two thirds of Conservative Party members voted for him against Jeremy Hunt in the July leadership election - at a distance it did look as if had a left-wing leader versus a right-wing leader, and anyone traditionally in the centre would either go for the Liberal Democrats or Change UK. I thought that a London Mayor does not a Prime Minister make.

Watching Johnson's speech outside No 10 on Friday afternoon made me think a bit differently, and the "Merry Christmas" reference at the end was touching - after all, a General Election has never been close to Christmas in nearly 100 years. I think that most of us will warm to him as time goes on, and Brexit is just like a huge amount of water which needs to be passed under the bridge in less than seven weeks' time anyway. As I have a Conservative MP now representing me, I am considering going back to them.

Line ‘em all up whilst I get me gun ...

I didn't have a horse in this race, but as someone who has watched a deterioration in the U.S. I want to say that civility is the foundation of civilization. One of my personal heroes is Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, Conservative. I think he lived and worked by this principle. Were this a U.S. person posting it could be meant quite literally, and also as they only have two major parties would in effect mean they would no longer be a democracy if they carried such a thing out. Also there was that shooting just before another recent election which was horrifying. I am no fan of Boris of Eton (which isn't to say I am a fan of anybody else) but his post-election speech was well said and I hope he genuinely will try to live up to it.

I can certainly imagine people living through the '70s having a very large chip about labour, and also those who saw the WMD lie that led Brits into that Iraq fight and occupation. A real victory does not come through name-calling, intimidation or bullying any more than a war started on a lie can be said to be won. I hope this post from an outsider is acceptable. It is not meant to aggravate.

Getting used to a new Prime Minister is like getting used to wearing a new pair of shoes - one gets blisters and teething problems, although as time goes by, one gets used to wearing them.

I would have voted Conservative as well, but as I voted Remain in 2016, I actually thought whether that actually tallied with what the Brexit situation is now.

I don’t have a dog in this fight but it was telling how Boris was even more enthusiastic regarding improving the NHS and other services AFTER he’d won ... any other PM may have discarded anything like that or at least not mentioned it as soon as they’d won ..
