      Re: American Election 2020

I think he's going to do some damage on the way out... lots of lawsuits based on little to nothing, and firings of people he's 'not happy with'.

He got the best treatments in the world, not available to anybody else, so I believe he had coivd.

Biden made a very tactful victory speech, much like Boris Johnson did. Even though I'm skeptical about Boris in some ways I can see that he has qualifications and integrity. I hope most people will give Joe Biden some respect. Trump was not at all qualified and not deserving of his position. He refused to learn or even read very much. He basically couldn't do the job even with all the advisers and career people in place (and he has driven many career people to leave that he didn't actually replace with some 'friend' or relative).

Oh well, you'd think people would get serious and behind whoever will start actually doing things related to covid transmission... there had been a plan for the U.S. postal system to distribute millions of masks early on but guess who ordered the project abandoned? Then later his unqualified 'friend' he put in charge of it had sorting machines turned off and taken away even to slow down the delivery of voting ballots. It's a long way back but at least most of the major countries are acknowledging Biden's win even if Trump and Putin aren't.

He was tested negative earlier on this year, and then he was tested again and it was positive - anything is possible.
Telling it almost exactly like it was so many years later - and proud of doing so!

You could tell that Boris had covid because he looked really unwell after the treatment think it did knock the stuffing out of him

I guess I'm ina minority of none here - but yeah Trump has been an idiot but he was the best President America ever ever had and they'll never get close again to such a good one for a long toime I think, especially with Biden (who is just too slow, and miserable), let alone him being too old really to be in command of such a great Country as America

Trump put America first and rightly so, particulary with his Mexico Wall amongst many things, and for me most Country's who are civilized or are at the forefront of being World Leaders need people like Trump (especially with his buisness-sense) and sadly not many have such leaders - in-particular England (more so since the "Thatcher Days"), though i despised everything she stood for, Maggie just got on with things and took no Prisoners and that is what I admired in Trump, though I know he has been an idiot .... at the same time he was great for America if he toned things down

Though Trump was'nt a politican, neither was Ronald Regan - who used to scare me witless, but he was good too and not many called him out. If I was American, I don't know which party I support as 2nd to Trump I'd rate Bill Clinton .... then Regan but all are from opposite party's ... so!!!

What flavour was the Kool-aid! Saying you despise Thatcher makes it sound even stupider. Don't forget her single-mindedness got her stabbed in the back by her former allies over the Poll Tax.

Unless you are billionaire tax dodger there's no good in having Trump as presidents as the rednecks who are stupid enough to be fooled by the Alt-right propaganda won't get any benefits but are too stupid too see it.

The Mexico wall is like Brexit, a waste of money fighting a make believe enemy. His phony trade war China simply sent a lot of jobs to Brazil & Mexico.

Ronald Regan was involved the actor's trade union & the governor of California for 8 years before running for president.

Especially one who gets nearly quarter of a million of his own people by claiming the biggest threat to the country in decades is fake news for far too long.

                        Re: American Election 2020

Trump's apparent popularity is always surprising me. I think it's an either you get it and like him or you don't at all affair. I didn't understand Bill Clinton's popularity any better though.

I can imagine with all the strikes and power outages that had been going on why people would vote in Thatcher when they did. Like anything too much of one size never fits all, and by the end she had done a lot of damage to the ITV region system for just one thing.

Reagan was also a mixed bag. There were good points (and he was experienced), and some not so good like more than tripling the U.S. national debt in his two terms. He also wrote against military assault weapons being in U.S. neighbourhoods and urged Republicans to vote for restrictions. Many of the neo-conservatives with his photo prominently framed on their wall often enough say things opposite to things he said. One thing I came to like was his calling the USSR an evil empire, but at the time many criticized him for that term. I do think communism lends itself very easily to evil (while promising much). Needless to say some socialism (which the U.S. does have some of) is part of a balanced country, and I do hate when people try to equate the two with a zero tolerance for anything but a let-the-market-determine-all-things with no regulation fantasy.

I liked Bill Clinton, he was a fair bit younger than both Reagan & Bush Sr and was willing to be more progressive in many areas than either of them.

I've got similar feelings about Reagan, being able to start winding down the Cold War by talking to Gorbachv was one of his greatest achievements.

Clinton wasn't too bad - he felt like a "moderniser" in the White House compared to previous presidents. It's just a pity that he couldn't keep his hands to himself when it came to the Lewinsky / P Jones / G Flowers / Tripp incidents.

I think that scuppered Al Gore's chances in 2000, though he ran a complacent campaign.
