  • Now That's What I Call Music!

Back in the 1980's the first ever record I bought with my very own money was "Now that's what I call music 11" It had Kylie Minogue on it and a host of other very popular records of the time.

I was enthralled by it because it seemed to good to be true - ALL of your favorite songs on the same record! You didn't need to buy the singles at all! Of course at that period of the 1980's I realise that record companies like "Stock, Aiken and Waterman" probably produced most of those songs anyway, but at the time it was sensational!

Well, being bang up to date with the new wave of technology, EMI records have now released a whole new "Now That's What I Call Music!" Idea.

Basically, their website allows music fans (that's me and you) to create our own personalized Now! album. To celebrate the launch, they are offering 10% off any digital download by using the voucher code: nowlaunch10

The nowmusic.com site allows users to choose their own tracks from any of the themed albums e.g. 80s, 90s, 00s, love songs and even an album of number 1s. Each theme offers over 100 tracks to pick from so you can create a full album of tracks you want to hear - no 'fillers'.

Though, I think I know which songs I will be choosing. All of the same songs that were on Now That's What I Call Music 11. Or as Kylie says on that Album "I should be so lucky!"Subscribe in a reader

The 1984 one Heather, would that be the one with an artist called Rockwell "Somebody's watching me" on?

Hmm, would that have The Reflex on? Because if it did I'm about to go check that out and maybe dance round my living room.

I remember buying Now 11 primarily for The Pet Shop Boys. I still love their version of 'Always On My Mind', even though it has dated. My other fave tunes on that album were by Belinda Carlisle, Billy Ocean, Jermaine Stewart, T'Pau, Dollar, Jack 'n' Chill and Morris Minor! Says a lot about my 12-year-old self!

I got the first one for Christmas in '83. Still have it. They did a special anniversary edition on CD. I have that too.
                        Heaven knows I'm miserable now.

I also have the reissue of the first Now on CD. I even have Now 23 on cassette.
A few Now boxsets and several CDs ranging from 32 to 58.
I'm looking for Now 29 to add to my collection.

What seemed to be so revolutionary about the "Now" series when it came out in the early 80's was the fact that you got hits by the original artists (ok nothing new there as K-Tel/Ronco et al. had been doing it for a while) but you got the full unedited versions as they had appeared in their original 7inch formats. You didn't get any "fillers" either.

"Now's" was fantastic ...they still are ok but were still great until about 99 I think.
