Hawtrey's last Carry On was, indeed, Abroad. Yes, his drinking is said to have been very excessive by then. Very sad that he couldn't control it, or perhaps he didn't really want to control it. I have not read anything that suggests he tried to get treatment for it, but who knows?

He mostly left over the amount he was going to be paid for an Xmas special IIRC. He was offered a bigger part than normal due to some of the other regulars not being in it, only to find he was going to get his normal support part fee.
