  • Tiger Tots

Tiger Tots were made as part of the same range as Jelly Tots and made by Rowntree, but these had an array of different sweets in them, so a bit like Dolly Mixtures. The packet had a cute tiger on the front, so I always wanted them, but they were a really sickly mix so I never actually enjoyed them...

I had the same problem with them and found them rather sickly. The ones I hated the most were the small hard colourful sugery cubes.Althow the jelly tot type of sweet in the pack was rather nice.I used to eat those then give my younger brother the rest to finish off. It's really hard to think back on these properly as I get them mixed up quite often with dolly mixtures.I have it in my mind that they were a cheaper version.

The small hard sugery cubes were my favourite.........I don't think my tooth is as sweet today.

I can remember sometimes having these when very young.

Were there any other sweets in the range alongside Jelly Tots & Candy Tots?

I remember someone uploaded some scans of the wrappers a while back.

I can't really remember Bunny Tots or Teddy Tots, were they withdrawn by the early 1980s?

              Re: Tiger Tots

The advert song went something like:
              Jelly Tots your favourite treat,
              Candy Tots ?????????? eat?
and Teddy Tots, so shiny bright
Tiger Tots are licquorice for you to bite,
More to choose from a longer shelf,
              Rowntrees Tots , please yourself.

The characters were actors dressed in costumes(like the Banana Splits), Bunny Tots came later, he was blue and they all rode on a train (though I'm sure the last shot was a cuddly toy rabbit on a toy train).

                Re: Tiger Tots

I only remember jelly tots and dolly mixtures and I never liked dolly mixtures so if there was anything like them in any of the other mixes then I wouldn't have had them.

As I recall, Tiger Tots were mini licorice allsorts. The mini dolly mixture was something else ... dollly tots, maybe?

I had a bit of time to think about it now.Gosh it was so long ago and so many nice sweets have been consumed since.Tiger tots were mini licorice allsorts..I remember now.Tiny tots or was it candy tots I think were the small dolly mixture type sweets.I get the image of the candy tots just being those sugery cubes on their own for some reason. Some one please correct me if I am wrong on the name.I get them all mixed up so easily as in my mind as what was in each product pack and find it really hard to remember what most of them were actually called althow I clearly remember the tiger tot wrapper now I have seen it.Must of had my last pack ot tiger tots way back when the shop on the corner was a co-op back in the late 70's.Jelly tots are still great after all these years and just had to have a pack on the way home from work today.

Sorry folks, just had to look it up on wikipedia to find out which was which. It was doing my head in trying to remember. There was only three companion sweets to jelly tots.Jelly tots being the only survivor in our shops today. The others were tiger tots which were like mini licorice allsorts, candy tots which were the dolly mixture type sweets, and bunny tots were the sugery square cubes.I expect my last post was fueled by suger overdose form the jelly tots I had earlier.
