  • Manhattan Transfer

My Mum used to drive me mad playing this stuff. This singing group always seemed to appear on Saturday night T.V shows. They used to sing a French ballad type tune, what was it called..... ???

Also remember others in Mums collection:-

    Astrud Gilberto
    Barron Knights
    Neil Sedaka
    James Galway.. the flute player
And some girl who sung a song called 'Lilac Wine'.. ???

"Chanson D'Amour" was sung by Manhattan Transfer.

    Elkie Brookes sang "Lilac Wine"
"She moves in such an exciting world!"

I didn't realise it was such an old song - written in the 1950's and recorded by Eartha Kitt and Nina Simone respectively!

'Ra-te-ta-te-tat' was coined by Bobby Ball in the Cannon and Ball show - I think when the band appeared on that show in the 70s. However, I distinctly recall that he was still using the same joke well into the 80s despite the song having been a hit in 1977!
