Were the Monkee's a band before their tv show or afterwards?

I heard they were a spoof band inspired by the Beatles

          I could be wrong there

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

They were a band at the same time as the TV show, & carried on releasing music after the programme finished.

I heard that before about Mike Nesmith's Mum inventing correction fluid. Supposedly one of the reasons he rarely took part in their reunions was because he had inherited her fortune & didn't need the money.

Mike could have stayed with the band using his inheritance to put on the odd free show on tour

Last Train to Clarks Ville for me (assuming the Monkee's sang it)

IIRC it was a Monkee's song

                      Re: The Monkees

I reckon that The Monkees, however they first came together, had some decent hits.
Much, much better than a lot of the modern plastic stuff that comes from present day "made up" bands.
And will still be getting played long after that stuff is forgotten.

Still got VHS tapes of the Monkees. Lol.

And somewhere,an annual of Micky Dolenz as "The Circus Boy" 1956. As a child actor.

Back in the mid-60's, I lived next to Chris Andrews and Davy Jones was a friend of his and regular visitor. He would often join us for a kickabout. Great times.

Mmm, i heard they didn't actually play on the records and that they were just actors playing the part of a pop group?

That's pretty much how they started. They eventually split from their management and recording deals because they wanted to play their own instruments and record their own music. They got their wish but had very little commercial success afterwards. Saw them live in Manchester about 1997 and they put on a great show..
