  • Northern Soul

I only got to Wigan Casino twice for the all-nighters, they were insane!!

Anyway it seemed so at the time cos this was long before break dancing , body popping etc

There were people somersaulting backwards on the dance floor or leaping and twisting in the air like acrobats

Both times I hung round in corner with mates as we dared each other to get up and try it ....no takers as we knew we would get a right showing up next to the regulars

They even went to toilets, stripped down ,got washed and full change of clothes as the night went on so they were fresh again for the next bout of near gymnastics

Still awestruck all these years later

    Re: Northern Soul

Further to this I got a vague memory of some of them appearing on TOTP a long, long time ago.

    Wigans Chosen Few ?

    Track called 'Footsie'?

          Hi Danny,
I started going to Northern events just after Wigan closed in '81.I'm still going now and occasionally DJ.
There are still big Allnighters and you still get acrobatic dancers!
Heres a link to a great (and mega rare) Wigan sound...

This is perhaps her biggest sound on the Northern Scene.

                    Re: Northern Soul

Was watching telly the other evening - that prog where Lily Savage dresses up like a man was on, the theme was Northern Soul.

Anyways they did like a potted history of the Casino and then had some of the old-schoolers and a load of ones who've grew up in the culture all giving it big licks on the floor - brill to watch!

End the night wrecking in a big circle to should I stay or should I go and Sunrise....
