The one I hated in the 80s was 'Joe Dolce' and Shut up ya face or something like that! It knocked Vienna off the top spot forever...how could that have been? Midge Ure was ace!

I certainly remember some baaaaaad, sad dances from the 80's era....what was it about back then?!

I was quite into them at the time....all to impress the boys hanging around the periphery of the dancefloor pretending not to be interested!

I always remember me and my mate Dai trying to do the "Footsie" dance that we saw on "Top of the Pops" the previous Thursday. The song was from "Wigan's chosen few" and they had a couple of (I guess) Wigan Casino dancers doing their thing to it on the show.
The only bit that I can remember clearly is where you clap hands with legs akimbo and "fall" backwards onto the floor, using one hand to stop yourself, then you use that hand to push yourself semi back up, clapped, and went down again , this time on the other hand.


We were **** at it, but it got a few laughs!


As alluded to in a previous post, I too remember the lads hanging around the edges of the dancefloor "spotting talent" as the girls danced in pairs for our amusement. We all waited for a smootch to come on and then there was a mad dash to "tap up" the girl you fancied.

Black Lace had another dance in the early 80s, think it was called Superman, it had a rhythm similar to Gary Glitter's Rock'n'Roll Pt.1.

Yes Aidan, I am (overly) familiar with "Superman". A DJ colleague of mine took great pleasure in spinning this track whilst changing into a home made superman costume, with cape, and appearing on stage to fly! - the cape covered the fact that he was lying on a chair/table!
BTW I actually met "Colin" from Black Lace in the toilets of the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Fleetwood, Blackpool where he was performing way back when. By this time he had split from "Alan" I think it was (who IIRC had gone on to front "Smokie") and was touring with another, taller lad. They sang to a minidisc backing track whilst he played the guitar.
I remember my opening line was "You have saved my life several times" and his retort was "You must be a DJ then!" - he seemed to be quite astute.
PS I agree that Rock n Roll pt1 was a better track than R&R pt 2, although the latter got chart position and had more "thump".

Dont Forget there were "X rated" versions of Superman and Agadoo. They wer'nt rude just Cheeky.
There was another song like that.where people did certain moves togetherand it was worse than Agadoo - The Clap Clap song by the Klaxons now that was a DJs nightmare.
