There was a lot of fantastic songs from the 80s. I loved Cutting Crew - Been In Love Before (I dream I will fall in love again for keeps).

so true the eighties had amazing songs by a huge array of bands groups solo artists etc.
from songs by cyndi lauper girls just wanna have fun, etc.
songs i just love they are.

to the cars with whos gonna drive u home its just impossible.
lets just celebrate a great decade of music. and be happy we where there to hear it when it first came out.

other defining songs are whos gonna stop us know by starship.

Agree with you 100%, but I still love the track. Killer bassline.

I think I'm gonna agree with whoever mentioned Axel-F as their defining song, though Doug E Fresh's 'The Show' was a personal fave for me through the mid to late eighties...

I guess historically, D-Mob's atrocious 'We call it Acieeed' was pretty major!

Some defining songs of the 80's for me are House of Fun and Baggy Trousers by Madness, Kids in America by Kim Wilde, and I have to agree with the other members who said Do They Know It's Christmas? by Band Aid.

dunno about defining but a few that could only be the 80's..
Tears for Fears-everybody wants to rule the world
    Duran Duran-Rio
Go West-Call me (the whole first album is classic 80's sounds and production.extremely dated but still great).

    timeless classic..ABC Lexicon of Love

    My goodness, where to begin.

Too many good songs, but if I was to pick one, or even two, how about these-

Whitney Houston -How Will I Know. The moment I saw this video I thought she was the greatest singer in the world, (still do) and I was hooked, sorry but I was.

Def Leppard -Pour Some Sugar On Me. Not a big rocker fan but this just typifies the 80s for me, classic rock and a catchy tune.

Superb, you can't beat the 80s.
