Merry xmas by slade we will have it shortly blasting in the shops

hated that damn song in '74 and still hate it now. The Wizard (Roy wood) song 'I wish it was Christmas Everyday' doesn't get on my nerves' even though some must hate it. I liked Roy Wood's output.

Not a good thread for me this one ; I could fill it a thousand times over with songs I despise. Maybe it's easier to list the genres of music or even the artists (if one may call them that).

Wow.
Interesting choice.
Personally I think that when Michael was young he had one of the greatest voices of all time, and even after his voice had broken he was still an amazing singer.
And such great tunes as A.B.C, I Want You Back & The Love You Save ?!?
However, each to their own & all that.
I do agree with you on Robbie Williams though.

Laurie Anderson - O Superman.

The one that went 'ha ha ha ha'. It was supposed to be deep and meaningful political comment, but I couldn't make head nor tail of what she was supposed to be conveying. Years later, she gave an interview in which she said the track was about the Iran Contra scandal... which was in 1986, and O Superman was 81, so I think even she was muddled about this so-called great message.

Trouble was, John Peel liked it, fair enough, but I think then a lot of people jumped on the bandwaggon and pretended to like it because Peel was cool and they thought they could bask in some of his coolness. Which is actually the opposite of what John Peel stood for - he was for individuality and liking what you like even if nobody else does, not slavishly following what trendsetters set out for you.

I wonder if even 5% of the people who claimed to love it in 1981 have even listened to it since. Classic case of 'Emperor's New Clothes'.
