I've always hated the dirge-like 'Seasons in the Sun' sung by Terry Jacks in the early 70s. My wife however, hates it more than I do. So I often play it on my guitar just to cheese her off....because I'm that sort of bloke.

For a time in the late '90s the Righteous Brothers owned a nightclub in my town called "The Hop." It's long gone and is now an Italian restaurant.

"Mickey" - Toni Basil. Detest the song and the "artiste". As soon as I hear this track it's stuck in my head for friggin' hours

Anything by Coldplay or R.E.M makes me very angry indeed.

    Laurie Anderson - O Superman.

The one that went 'ha ha ha ha'. It was supposed to be deep and meaningful political comment, but I couldn't make head nor tail of what she was supposed to be conveying. Years later, she gave an interview in which she said the track was about the Iran Contra scandal... which was in 1986, and O Superman was 81, so I think even she was muddled about this so-called great message.

Trouble was, John Peel liked it, fair enough, but I think then a lot of people jumped on the bandwaggon and pretended to like it because Peel was cool and they thought they could bask in some of his coolness. Which is actually the opposite of what John Peel stood for - he was for individuality and liking what you like even if nobody else does, not slavishly following what trendsetters set out for you.

I wonder if even 5% of the people who claimed to love it in 1981 have even listened to it since. Classic case of 'Emperor's New Clothes'.
