Money was too tight to mention for Simply Red's Mick Hucknall back in recession-hit 1985. Similarly, Elton John sang 'don't have much money' in his early hit 'Your Song'. Both these artists are loaded nowadays. Can anyone else think of any rich mainstream artists who've pleaded poverty in their songs at any stage?

Re: Wealthy Artists Who've Sung About Not Having Much Money in the Past
Another one I can think of is Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car' (in which she dreams of owning one) but I wouldn't like to say whether she could be described as wealthy or not."The answer to the ultimate question, of life, the universe and everything is .....42"

Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today.
But if you ask for a raise it's no surprise that they're
giving none away.

"Yes, absolutely in the right!"
"I certainly was in the right!"
"You was definitely in the right. That geezer was
cruising for a

"Yeah!"
"Why does anyone do anything?"
"I don't know, I was really drunk at the time!"
"I was just telling him, he couldn't get into number 2. He was asking
why he wasn't coming up on freely, after I was yelling and
screaming and telling him why he wasn't coming up on freely.
It came as a heavy blow, but we sorted the matter out"Last edited by philipdalton; 06-05-2015, 23:21."The answer to the ultimate question, of life, the universe and everything is .....42"
