    Re: Mary Hopkin

I liked the fashion of the early '70s, crocheted dresses and big floppy hats, really large specs and colour was allowed. Mary had a lot of really good songs throughout the '70s, there are some that i think should have been hits but I think she got really worn out for awhile by the appearing and the show-biz. I'd be the same, it definitely can be a harder road on women.

Those Were The Days was her breakthrough hit but her Eurovision entry was Knock Knock Who's There

I liked Mary she came from Pontardawe which is in the Swansea Valley, she was really attractive pretty young lady, the song Those Were The Days which she sang in the Eurovision I think she came second Dana beat her by coming first for Ireland. With All Kinds of Everything.
I read a few weeks back that Mary was auctioning things off from late 60,s early 70s some frocks she wore and other bits and pieces.

    started a topic Mary Hopkin

    Mary Hopkin

Anyone else have fond memories of her early '70s music? I really love her 1971 album titled Earth Song/Ocean Song. Most people remember she took part in the Eurovision Song Contest, and her song Goodbye with Sir Paul McCartney. She started out singing in Wales; did the Byrds' (well, and Pete Seeger's) Turn Turn Turn in Welsh.

She's still recording and has had new CDs out. Just found her family website today. Lots to catch up on apparently. http://www.maryhopkin.com/index.html
