  • Where Have I Heard This Song Before?

Wrote this on Fruity Loops over fifteen years ago. Sounds familiar to me. When I play it I think of bad VHS trailers at the beginning of horror films. But particularly that oriental film or films about that Shogun and his kid in a pram.

I've looked into them both and no match.

Take a listen, please. This ISN'T a sad attempt to spread my talents btw.

Interesting track. The combination of the dark synth pads and the repetitive, almost hypnotic rhythm immediately reminded me of late '70s and early '80s exploitation cinema rather than mainstream horror.

That's what I think. It's got dodgy VHS tape trailer written all over it. Foreign, i would say. Too weird to be American or British. Thing is I haven't written a song even remotely like it since or before. So I'm thinking it's flopped out of my VHS brain engrams. My mum would let us see anything when we were 13 and 14. Even mainstream films from that period had some bad film trailers attached. I can't recall if I tried AI tune identifying software. My mind straight away thought of those Shogun Assassin movies though. I'm sure I saw one or two of them as a young teen. They have them all on archive.org but there's 8 of the blighters. And the trailers may have had music on them unrelated to the contents of the films.

You are so spot on about trailers using completely unrelated music too - distributors back then would just slap whatever royalty-free library tracks or Italian prog-rock snippets they had lying around onto the promo tape to make it sound punchier.

Italian is what I had in mind. Some of those Fulci films and giallo have funky beats. Years of watching Eurovision Song Contest has pierced my consciousness with how odd Non British music is. There's something genetic about music. LOL.
