Re: Remember this bike
I certainly remember the younger kids with them (or something very much like them) in the early 70's.Probably passed down from their older brother or sisters. The sprayed on spokes on the front wheel certainly jogs a memory and the footplate on the back also jogs a memory.

Re: Remember this bike
Had one of those at playgroup in the early 80s. It was the oldest, rustiest trike in the pedal car store and if you weren't quick enough to get a decent toy, such as the Kettler go-karts, you would end up with it. Or one of the Bantel trikes with a light blue frame and a red seat.

Re: My First Three-Wheeler Bike
Photos of kids playing in the street from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s often include rear wheel drive three wheel bikes with a chain drive. They didn't seem to exist in the 1990s and I can't recall seeing any kids with one back then. Three wheel bikes were all front wheel drive and most consumer versions were made of plastic although metal ones were available.
When exactly did rear wheel drive three wheel bikes die and what killed them off?
It's noteworthy that many of the kids from old photos look around 6 or 7 years old. An age at which they would be riding a two wheel bike in the 1990s. Modern front wheel drive three wheel bikes are designed for kids under the age of 5. So why were rear wheel drive three wheel bikes so popular when they used more metal than a two wheel bike of the same size, so would be more expensive, and they took up more space at home in an era when many houses were smaller and more cramped.

Re: My First Three-Wheeler Bike
When exactly were stabilisers invented and when did they become popular in Britain?
In the 1990s kids used to learn to ride with stabilisers but an increasing number of kids in recent years learn to ride with balance bikes.
