I'm a big fan of John Carpenter soundtracks, 'Assault on Precinct 13' in particular.
Also the band known as Goblin, best known for their Italian horror movie soundtracks.

goblins music scores are amazing on films such as suspiria,phenomena,deep red etc.

the soundtracks for the superman films are amazing as well as for supergirl.
inferno by dario aregento music done by keith emerson of emerson lake and palmer.

American Graffiti was one of the first films to use mostly existing songs for the soundtrack, which fitted in with the Rock & Roll era setting & the plotline involving Wolfman Jack.

Incidentally the lyrics to the opening song from Richard III are from a sonnet written by Christopher Marlowe in 1592.

I loved Moulin Rouge - I thought the modern music worked really well.

I do love the music used in The English Patient. It was sublime. *sigh

I have two major pet peeves about movie music...

1) Instead of a beautifully done score the soundtrack is nothing more than an off-the-shelf compilation of various pop artists.
2) Modern contemporary music in a period film instead of music either from the period or a score that's evocative of that era. Two notable examples that come to mind are Moulin Rouge (set in the early 1900s) and Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights (Hip Hop in 1950s Havana???)
