While not necessarily being great music, the music in "Gregory's girl" is absolutely perfect for the film. Similarly but less known is the music to the Sandrine Bonnaire film "Vagabonde".

Re: The best and worst movie music.

are we just talking about theme music, or actual music by artists, which is featured in movies?

            lets see, theme-wise

Lord of the Rings - the opening title theme, and the main theme that plays alot throughout the film.

The Fog (1980) - the main theme, played over the ending credits, brilliant chilling 80s horror music.

Star Wars - most of the music in it

Scarface (1983) - the main theme on the opening credits

as for worst, i don't know, i don't really think of bad music when i think of films.

Love Get Carter Theme and have heard many great cover versions over the years. Also Schindlers List - very moving

The DVD of Get Carter has an isolated audio track so you can here all the songs without any dialogue overlapping.

I've nor heard it but the Human League's version of the Get Carter theme is supposed to be good.

There's two things in this world that I love: Anything by Stanley Kubrick and music from the 1920s and '30s. And in my opinion the two came together most masterfully in The Shining.

Some of the original music for The Shining was by Wendy Carlos of Switch On Bach fame, who also provided music for A Clockwork Orange.

time for some of my faves from artists

                          The Wraith (1986)
, has some great 80s rock in it like 'Secret Loser' by Ozzy Osbourne, and many others.

The Golden Child (1986) - 'Body Talk' by Ratt

also horrors have alot of good music in them, especially rock music

Fright Night (1985) - 'You Can't Hide from the Beast Inside' by Autograph

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986) - 'He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)' by Alice Cooper

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) - 'His Eyes' by Pseudo Echo

Nightmare of Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) - 'Dream Warriors' and 'Into the Fire' both by Dokken

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) - 'I'm Awake Now' by The Goo Goo Dolls, and 'Why Was I Born? (Freddy's Dead)' by Iggy Pop

                          now for some non-horrors

Short Circuit 2 (1988) - 'Holding Out For A Hero' by Bonnie Tyler
