I loved Frakie Howerd in the Carry Ons. He brought a different dimension to the film.

Remember we watched it at the same time, opposite sides of the world but we still chatted through out! Haha.

Silvers was losing his sight, so had to wear contact lenses as well as spectacles. I think the producers were trying to crack the US market, hence the inclusion of Silvers. I used to think he was in it due to Sid James's heart attack, but the dates don't match. I think Sid would have been better as the Sgt.

Phil Silvers played Sgt Knocker. Is that the only instance of an American actor in a Carry On? Can't think of any others, but I stand to be corrected.

I believe you are right. Similar to when Tommy Cooper had a heart attack and the audience thought he was fooling about as part of his act.

She didn't look reluctant in Carry On Dick, as she rang the church bells her top flew open, predictable but funny!

A bit of sad trivia. In Carry on Abroad, the actress who played the brothel madam was one of the first that Sid James worked with when he arrived in England from South Africa, and was on the stage with James in 1976 when he suffered his fatal heart attack.
