Film censorship in the UK has become somewhat more relaxed now than when VCR's first became popular. Not only have many of the so-called 'nasties' found their way back on the shelves again but also hard-core pornography has been legalized as well, so our censorship is as relaxed now as what it is in the States.
I remember it was on 'John Craven's Newsround' or something like that about the new video censorship law and a whole load of small children were shown describing scenes of violence they had seen in video films. It shocked my father at the time to think that their parents were allowing them to see that sort of thing.

I'll start things off......

Nightmares In A Damaged Brain for 50p in a second hand shop back in the early 90s.

Can anybody top that ?

i got delirium on vtc for 50 p at a car boot a few yrs back.

anyone seen christmas evil on iver.
i have it on iver.
quite obsucure but a rather good film.

also known as u better watch out and terror in toyland.

Yeah mate, Delirium was a good find, not a great movie though.

I've got Christmas Evil but i've never seen it.
Gonna watch it this week, along with all my other Christmas horrors.

very slow and its basically all flashbacks the woman has.

Actually the British Board of Film Censors can ban films on video but they don't have any legal control over what is shown in cinemas. The town council has the final say on what is shown in cinemas in their area. 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' was banned by the BBFC in the 70's for being too sadistic but was passed by the Greater London Council. According to my friend the Regal Cinema in Northwich, Cheshire showed an edited version of the hard-porn film 'Deep Throat' although the film didn't get a mainstream release in the UK.

I used to know a man who had seen this film on video and was very deeply upset and disturbed by the faked murder scene at the end of it, thinking it to be real.

Even though nobody really gets killed in this film it's still revolting and sadistic.

Really ?!?
Those "special" effects are completely pathetic, and the acting is terrible.
It really is one of the phoniest scenes in cinema history, I am blown away by someone actually believing it was real.
I think the guy should stay away from the horror genre completely if he is that gullible.

Would be interesting to know how many of the original 39 films have been released know! I even think that Island of death has been given a release. Not sure if Nightmare maker has yet.

Anybody remember the camapign against horror and violent videos durting the early '80s? A lot of the banned films are now legally available on DVD but some're still banned.

For the last 25 years or more, I've been gradually trawling my way through the list of VNs. So far, I've found that most them are ****, or just hilarious!!

I've heard a about a few different film buffs who have been all excited about seeing a banned film for the first time, only to be disappointed, or the initial thrill quickly wore off after repeated viewings.
