70's Kids TV Drama

Hi

This is been annoying me for some time..and then I found this Forum! I am looking for the name of a 1970's Kids TV Drama. It goes like this..two 'dodgy' young lads who are in some sort of problems with the police..they decide to steal a car and end up living in a forest somewhere...there is an old man who lives in some sort of shack who befriends them...there is also a gay man who also tries to help them...In the end one of the dodgy young lads gets himself killed when his stolen Ford Cortina crashes when he is chased by the police after using a 'saint Christopher' from the dash of the ford cordina to pay for a toll crossing...I think it was set in the Bristol area....any suggestions?

Just watched a bit on YT. Whether it's the right answer or not, I'm definitely going to be watching the uploaded episdodes. It looks really good.

I think the programme you're looking for is One Summer, made in 1983 by Yorkshire Television and definitely not a kids' drama. It's very fondly remembered and gets asked about a lot on forums such as this. It was available on DVD a few years back, but might have been deleted since then.

I watched some of this series online but dont recall the 'forest' bits. You may still be right however...

Yep, one summer was the first thing that sprang to my mind as well. Starred David Morrisey and James Hazeldine if memory serves me correct. Remember one scene where Morrisey's friend (the lad who dies in the car crash) accidently kills a bird by feeding it mars bars. Very fond memories of this show but missed the last episode due to a family holiday (we didn't have a vcr). Was gutted when friends at school told me how it ended.
