Re: Too old for it ?

Although I loved some of the children's shows from my childhood and still love them in a nostalgic way, I don't watch them any more, apart from the odd clip. I don't have anything against people who do though. Do whatever makes you happy! That's what I say.

Here's a funny. Though obviously not part of my own childhood, I was surfing YouTube not too long ago and came upon some episodes of The Sooty Show, which I had previously never heard of-- and now I'm hooked on it!

Never too old I say. Thats the sad thing about society, a lot of people think its 'odd' to do such things and this in turn effects others to behave in an 'adult' manner just to fit in. Do what you want and be yourself I say, I certainly do.

A couple of times in recent years I've found myself between jobs & to fill time I've started to flick through the cable channels to see what's on.

Often I've ended up watching Nickleoden or one of the Disney channels. I found a few things I would have liked when I was younger.

Recently I've bought Round The Twist & Maid Marian on DVD & have enjoyed watching them again.

I've also started to save up for the Gerry Anderson box sets. I've still got to watch all the DVD's I got for Xmas first.

I would venture that it's only "our" group, (now 40-50) that started it.
Collectors have always "collected", but 40-50 year olds are the ones who remember the **** 60's repeats and early 70's stuff, and the VHS being marketed.
Hence we used to tape the "old stuff", whenever repeated, for future viewing in case it never got shown again.
Parents, i found, were not that fussed as TV was all a new thing to them as kids, and just assumed, once broadcast, that was it..
(i used to sit in front of the TV on a Saturday/Sunday night and record the Theme tunes on a little cassette recorder)
We had not forseen the invention of DVD or digital storage.
getting every episode of Thunderbirds on VHS was a major mission, and even when it first got marketed on VHS, It would still be a vast collection, due to tape size limitation.
My entire gerry Anderson collection could now sit on one small shelf..

    but its doesn't..

In true 21st Century style, I only own them all digitally now. no tapes, DVDs, etc..

just true digital HD to be shown on flat HD wall screens..

Finally, we have caught up with the most basic of Gerry's premises

    Welcome to the Future

I think the answer is that we all do it. That is to say, as adults, we still get a kick out of those great kids TV shows. And as 16 year olds, we probably still liked the stuff we watched at 11.
