Details are a bit vague but trying to identify a television series aired the the UK in the early 80s. It featured a short man with mousy hair in a bob and possibly a fringe. He wore some kind of tunic and in his hand was either a mechanical box or a triangle and it opened up, possibly twisting as it did.

Thanks Heather74 that ticked so many boxes but sadly isn't it. They guy had a more plain tunic and more of a bob hair cut. The box (or possibly triangle or pyramid) he had was either held or embedded in his hand (and opened up like a puzzle box). It was possibly a one off or part of an educational show that was watched in school.Comment
